What about a special Sunday Service for Godparents?
Think about having a special Sunday set aside each year to invite godparents and families of the baptised back to church for.
It is a great opportunity to involve families in the ongoing life of the church, and to involve all those in the congregation who are godparents or godchildren too.
Godparents are part of family and church life for all the years ahead, a relationship that will last for a lifetime. So setting apart a Sunday to celebrate and pray for this special relationship is a great opportunity to share with families and ask for God’s blessing on godparents and godchildren everywhere.
You needn’t make it too elaborate or complicated. Keep it simple by including Godparents Sunday prayers in your usual service, or:
- you can extend the welcome more widely and invite families with recently baptized children to church for a special service, or,
- you can go large and make it a great occasion for celebration. Perhaps invite families and godparents to a party immediately following the service if you have the facilities. It’s also a great way of getting other members involved in the occasion by asking them to help out the catering. It’s a win-win!
